One of the problems I have had with fantasy, as of late, has been its reliance on a whitewashed Eurocentrism. Ironically, the strangeness of the medieval European world is done injustice by some of the stereotypes, clichés, and poor writing that permeates the fantasy genre.
I’m the first to admit that I love the space opera sub-genre. I remember watching Battlestar Galactica (the new rendition — sorry, crusty grognards) for hours on end, wondering when (or, rather, if) the human fleet would find the promised land: Earth.
