Okay, okay. I'm sure everyone is going to hate me for saying this, but most speculative fiction baddies (i.e., the so-called bad guys) are terrible. Not terrible as in their behavior, but terrible as in their execution being terrible.
Here is a little something I put together for an assignment in one of my MFA classes. It's called a mood board, something that is supposed to represent who you are and, more importantly, what your work is about--that is, its essence.
One of my problems with space opera, at least traditional-esque space opera, has been the tendency to name aliens, uplifted species, etc. in ways that are either unpronounceable or in ways that are just plain weird.
